The city apparently founded by two twins raised by a she-wolf, Rome/Roma is full of history of grand proportions. Whilst there I wrote of the city:
Roma is filled with cultural artefacts – architectural wonders that command your attention and awe. They are almost other-worldly.
Roma is filled with art, of the most grand and impressive nature. Ceilings – I have never looked UP so much. Embossed walls; the Sistine Chapel; frescoes; scenes and stories.
Roma is filled with food. Pizza, pasta, and artichokes. Trattorias and Pizzarium.
Roma is filled with views – from Palatine Hill, the top of the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II and Barberini Square.

Long Haul: Singapore to Abu Dhabi (followed by Abu Dhabi to Rome). Italy really is very far from Australia!
ROME!
Wandering the streets of Rome
Chocolate cannoli
One of the many beautifully adorned churches we visited in Rome. From the exterior the building did not seem particularly special, but the inside had high ceilings with painted scenes and ornaments that covered the many archways.
Wandering the streets of Rome. Delights around every corner!
Pastries! Yummy, yummy!
Potato & rosemary pizza at the Fontana di Trevi
Window shopping
Inside the Basilica Di Santa Maria in Aracoeli
Stunningly impressive architecture at the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II
Just another average view… Rome is filled with remnants of ancient architecture juxtaposed with elements of everyday modern life. History is everywhere, unlike any other city I’ve visited.
COLOSSEUM!
Animal fighting in the Colosseum
Walking through structures made thousands of years ago in the Colosseum
Colosseum cat
Colosseum panorama
Walking up to Palatine Hill
Stunning view from atop Palatine Hill. We lost our tour group after the Colosseum, which was at first stressful but lead to exploring and stumbling across beautiful views ourselves. Wouldn’t have preferred it any other way.
Manicured gardens and orange trees on Palatine Hill
Wandering amongst ruins
Just another casual monumental statue at Capitoline Hill
Sunset on the way to Trastevere
Thanks Lonely Planet
Dinner in Trastevere – Romans love their artichokes, and I love Roman artichokes! This crispy version was delish!
